Sushi Making Workshop (22 June 2025) @ Sonipat - Experience Japan

Sonipat, 22 June 2025 (Sunday) – Experience Japan was delighted to host a captivating Sushi Making Workshop on Sunday, June 22, 2025. Held at the premises of Alpenglow School in Sonipat, this immersive culinary event was organized in association with the renowned 'Takumi - The Asian Kitchen,' bringing a true taste of Japan to our community.

The workshop attracted 25 enthusiastic participants from various corners of Sonipat, all eager to delve into the intricate world of Japanese cuisine. The event was meticulously designed to offer both theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on experience in sushi preparation.

An Engaging Start: Insights into Japanese Cuisine The session commenced with a vibrant and interactive opening address by Mr. Jitender Mehta, President of Experience Japan. Mr. Mehta, a passionate advocate for Japanese culture, engaged the audience with fascinating insights into the nuances of Japanese food, its cultural significance, and the principles that make it one of the world's most celebrated cuisines. His discussion set an excellent foundation, sparking curiosity and preparing participants for the practical session ahead.

Unveiling the Secrets of Sushi with Takumi's Chef Following Mr. Mehta's insightful introduction, a seasoned chef from 'Takumi - The Asian Kitchen' took center stage. The chef began by providing a comprehensive introduction to sushi, sharing its rich history, evolution, and the various styles and ingredients that define this iconic dish. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of what makes sushi an art form, not just a meal.

The highlight of the workshop was the live demonstration. The chef skillfully showcased the preparation of two popular sushi types: Futomaki (thick rolled sushi) and Uramaki (inside-out rolled sushi). Participants watched keenly as the chef detailed each step, from preparing the perfect sushi rice and selecting fresh fillings to the precise technique of rolling with a bamboo mat. Tips on achieving the ideal texture, flavor balance, and presentation were generously shared, making the complex process seem accessible and enjoyable.

Hands-On Creation and Culinary Delight Armed with newly acquired knowledge and inspiration, the 25 participants then embarked on their own sushi-making journey. Under the expert guidance of the chef and event volunteers, each individual had the opportunity to practice rolling their own Futomaki and Uramaki. The atmosphere was filled with focused concentration, occasional laughter, and the shared joy of creating something delicious.

The culmination of the workshop was the most rewarding part: participants got to taste their freshly prepared sushi. The experience of savoring their handmade creations, from the perfectly seasoned rice to the fresh fillings, was a testament to the success of the workshop and the newfound skills of the attendees.

A Resounding Success The Sushi Making Workshop was a resounding success, achieving its goal of promoting cultural exchange through culinary arts. It provided a unique platform for the residents of Sonipat to connect with Japanese culture, learn a valuable skill, and enjoy a delightful gastronomic experience.

Experience Japan extends its sincere gratitude to 'Takumi - The Asian Kitchen' for their invaluable partnership and the expertise of their chef, to Alpenglow School for providing an excellent venue, and most importantly, to all the participants whose enthusiasm made the event truly special.
