1. Introduction

As part of the ongoing "Japan Month" celebrations with Embassy of Japan in India, Experience Japan successfully conducted a Sakura Language Awareness Program (SLAP) at Bright Scholars Sr. Sec. School in Sonipat. The program, held on September 1, 2025, was designed to introduce students to the benefits of learning foreign languages, with a special focus on Japanese.


2. Objectives of the Program

The primary objectives of the SLAP were to:

  • Raise awareness among students about the global and career benefits of acquiring foreign language skills.

  • Highlight the significant economic investments made by Japanese companies in India and the resulting professional opportunities.

  • Strengthen understanding of the historical and contemporary relationship between India and Japan.

  • Motivate and encourage students to consider learning Japanese as a skill for their future endeavors.


3. Program Structure and Attendees

The program commenced at 8:30 AM in the school's Eureka Hall. The session was attended by approximately 150 students from grades 11 and 12, accompanied by 10 teachers.


Mr. Jitender Mehta, President of Experience Japan, served as the key speaker for the interactive session. The session was structured to be highly engaging and included a mix of a presentation, Q&A, and discussion. Mr. Mehta provided a comprehensive overview of:

  • The cultural significance of the Japanese language.

  • The practical advantages of being bilingual or multilingual in today’s globalized world.

  • Specific examples of Japanese companies operating in India (e.g., Suzuki, Honda, Sony), and the career paths available.

  • The deepening strategic partnership between India and Japan in various sectors, including technology, education, and infrastructure.


4. Key Highlights

  • Interactive Engagement: The session was well-received by the students, who actively participated in the Q&A segment, asking insightful questions about career opportunities, language proficiency requirements, and cultural nuances.

  • Encouraging Response: The students showed a keen interest in exploring Japanese language courses and understanding the potential of a career linked to India-Japan collaborations.

  • School's Support: The management and staff of Bright Scholars Sr. Sec. School provided exceptional support, ensuring a smooth and successful event. The school's commitment to exposing its students to diverse global opportunities was evident.
